Wildcats utility man Lee Cowmeadow hopes to lift the weight of expectation off the shoulders of his young teammates ahead of the visit of his former club Chelmsford Chieftains tomorrow.
Cowmeadow believes the pressure of performing in front of an expectant Link Centre crowd has contributed to a depressing sequence of three straight home defeats and has called on the experienced Swindon squad members to up their workload.
He said: "Three or four us have played in this league for a long time and it is up to us to help the younger players.
"For some reason we are struggling at the moment and it is going to take a little time.
"We are a young side, minus some exceptions, and maybe that is why we are struggling at home because of the pressure.
"We have to be more consistent. We need to take the consistency from training sessions into our matches.
"Peter (Russell) is a young coach and always has some choice words for us whether we win, lose or draw.
"It is also up to him to bring the best out of the team. We win as a team and we lose as a team."
The Chieftains are just one of a long list of former employers for journeyman forward Cowmeadow, who is now in his 17th season as a senior.
The summer signing from Slough Jets is confident Swindon's fortunes will improve, but only if everyone starts to pull their weight.
He said: "We have the ability, we have just got to do the right things. Everyone has got to do their own jobs. We are still mixing up the lines and working out what we can play against certain teams.
"If you look at the results coming in at the moment the EPL is very open. Everybody is beating everybody which works in our favour especially bearing in mind our start.
"Chelmsford are one of the many teams I have played for and it is good to play against them. I still know a few of the guys there. I am not surprised they are second in the league because they have a good core of British players and some good imports.
He added: "We are not scoring goals at the moment. We need to create more chances and take our chances if we want to get that first home win."
