MARLBOROUGH can use their third win of the season as a springboard to survival, says captain Nick Crabbe.
Although they still sit second from bottom in Glos/Wilts, and in the relegation zone, Crabbe believes they can overhaul rivals Marshfield and climb to safety, starting at Gloucester City Winget on Saturday.
"If we can win just two more games, with the table the way it is, it could keep us up," he said.
"We have been confident all year, and have had so many close games go against us - it is nice to win one.
"We haven't done a lot differently in the second half of the season we have just got used to the standard of cricket."
Chippenham captain Steve Silk was gracious in Saturday's home defeat and also believes Marlborough could survive.
"They have got a stronger side than their position shows, the team worked really hard and it was good to play against a club who do not depend on an overseas player," he said.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat as openers Crabbe (24) and Andrew Wilson (23) got them off to a good start.
Chippenham bowlers Jace Lawson (4-50), Phil Adams (3-19) and Clifton Folkes (1-32) impressed, but could not stop Ben Head hitting an unbeaten 44.
James Schofield (20), Silk (27), and Tim Rowson (31) all contributed well in Chippenham's innings after opener Nick Pocock was out for a duck.
Ben Head (4-38), Andrew Wilson (3-37), Richard Holman (1-39) and Laurence Baker (1-20) did their best to restrict the hosts, who needed four to win off the last ball.
But a last ditch save at the boundary from Frank Whiting handed victory to Marlborough.
"It was a great game, really good fun and it went right down to the wire," said Silk. "But we threw it away again with experienced players playing inexperienced shots."
Silk's midtable side now play the top three in their next three games, travelling to second place Warminster on Saturday.
"We know going for the top has gone and we will make it as difficult for the rest as we can," he said.
"If we can mess it up for some we will and we will definitely have a say in who wins the league."
