EVEN career-best bowling figures from Malmesbury captain BK Majumder couldn't stop them from slipping to defeat on Saturday.
The Indian all rounder took 7-50, but was upset with the level of support he received from his other bowlers and in the field, where Stuart McNeil took 2-87 and Malmesbury claimed a run out.
"The main thing is we bowled rubbish and our ground fielding was not very good either," he said.
"Whenever players are in the first team they should realise they need to apply themselves more."
While succeeding with the ball Majumder failed with the bat, being trapped lbw for just two, and felt his side could have made the game more of a contest.
"If myself, Sam Higginbottom or Richard Gaunt stayed in for longer we could have got a bit closer," he said.
"We knew 307 was a big score but I said to them not to worry about it, play their natural game and see what happens."
Glynn Rees-Jones (72), Jack Ward (45) and James Pearce-Smith (33) did their best to try and chase the total but eighth placed Malmesbury will go into their home game with Westinghouse on Saturday on the back of a defeat.
Majumder said: "We definitely need to improve and we need more commitment but there is hardly any difference between fifth and eighth in the league, so we know we can still move up."
