THE Wiltshire Times of December 1 published two articles regarding connected matters which drew my attention.
On reading that Wiltshire Council was refusing to return control of the town’s car parks to Trowbridge Town Council, I went on to read that Smart Parking, the operators of the troubled Cradle Bridge retail park parking, was not prepared to reveal the landowner of the area they were patrolling.
Bells rang. A recent national press report stated that the English county councils shared a pot of some £80 million from parking fines, the monies from which were, by law, to be spent on local highways.
By the state of the roads around my way, Wiltshire Council’s share must have been minimal. That said, I wonder? Could there be any connection? Surely not!
