Richard Ryan, of Downlands Road, Devizes, died on September 20 in the Royal United Hospital in Bath, aged 65.
Mr Ryan, who was a leading member of Devizes and District Club, where he was an early evening regular, also loved cars and owned two classic Bentleys. One of these will be used as a limousine at his funeral to carry his wife Anne and other close family members.
Mr Ryan was born in Brigstock, Northamptonshire, but moved to Wiltshire in the late 1950s with his parents and sister Gill. He spent his teenage years in Trowbridge and was educated at Fitzmaurice Grammar School, Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge College and the London School of Economics.
He was passionate about motorbikes and sports cars. His sister remembers: “As a teen he spent many hours fixing his old bangers and MGs before setting off and backfiring down the road.”
He married Dianne when he was in his early 20s and they lived in West Wiltshire with their son Roy. After his divorce he met Anne in 2004 and they married in 2005.
His working life was mainly in sales and his sister remembers him particularly enjoying working for the motorbike firm Kawasaki.
He enjoyed following England cricket and Bath Rugby and as younger man had enjoyed sailing. He and Anne enjoyed cruising, taking day trips and had a busy social life.
