VOLUNTEERS of the Devizes Foodbank were given a helping hand recently by the local Muslim community, which donated more than £300.
Alan Beamish, co-ordinator of the Devizes Foodbank in Long Street, was invited along to an Eid celebration on September 18 by the owner of the Bengal Bite, Imam Hossain, who also invited volunteers and people who have used the foodbank in the past.
Mr Beamish said: “Mr Hossain contacted the foodbank and invited us to a meal. Volunteers from the bank and three families who have needed to use it before were brought along and sat down to a lovely dinner which was also followed up by games and quizzes. We are full of appreciation to Mr Hossain and the Muslim community in Devizes for doing this for us.”
Members of the Devizes Muslim community then visited the foodbank on Tuesday when they handed over a cheque to Mr Beamish.
“We were given a cheque for £360 to help with the work we do for the community. It is a great help and we couldn’t be more thankful,” added Mr Beamish.
Mr Hossain, speaking on behalf of the Devizes Muslim community, said: “We are proud to say that we raised £360 for Devizes Foodbank through our Eid al-Adha festival celebration with your hard work and generous donations. We have tremendous support and courageous feedback from the friends and local community and we are delighted to continue such event in future.”
