KEEN cyclists are ready to tackle the first hospice to hospice charity cycle ride being staged by Julia's House.

The 170 who have entered will ride on Sunday from Corfe Mullen, in Dorset, where Julia's House currently has a children's hospital, to Devizes.

Julia’s House has just signed a 999-year lease on two former offices at the old Kennet District Council headquarters at Browfort and it is hoped that work can begin this summer so it can open next year.

On Sunday, 128 riders have entered the 100km (62-mile) route from Corfe Mullen to Devizes, while 42 are to set off at 7.15am to tackle the 200km (124-mile) route, which takes in more of the New Forest.

Gazette web editor Bruno Clements is one of those taking part in the 200km ride.

"Even if it rains I'm sure spirits will stay high as it's for such a good cause," he said.

Julia’s House Parent Ambassador Charles Andrews, whose daughter Katherine, 12, receives care from Julia’s House, will be cycling with work colleagues from engineering firm Meggitt and has raised £9,951 for the charity.
