FORMER Pewsey parish councillor Reginald William Herbert Glover, who was known as Bill, has died aged 97.
Mr Glover, who grew up in Somerset, moved to Pewsey with his wife Renee in 1947 and worked for the old Pewsey Rural District Council in the housing department rising to become housing manager. He later worked for Kennet District Council.
Mr Glover, who lived in Pewsey until 1977 when the couple moved first to Christian Malford and then Devizes, was involved in many village groups, including being chairman of Pewsey Scouts and treasurer of Pewsey Vale Swimming Club.
Mr Glover and his wife were also keen ballroom dancers and his son Stephen said this week that his father loved to tell people when Strictly Come Dancing was on the television that Len Goodman sometimes visited their dance classes in Hungerford to give tuition. The couple won a number of trophies and continued to dance until Mrs Glover’s death in 1999.
After Mr Glover’s retirement the couple moved to Cornwall but he moved back to Devizes in 2013 to be near family. He leaves two sons, Stephen and Niall, and two granddaughters.
His funeral will be held at West Wiltshire Crematorium, Semington on Friday, June 24 at 12.15pm. A collection will be made for the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK.
