PUBS in and around Devizes are getting ready to support our Julia’s House appeal by selling a beer specially brewed for the cause by Wadworth.

The beer aptly named Stop Press is on sale in seven pubs including The Barge Inn at Seend which is celebrating after a bridge over the canal next to the pub has re-opened after months of work.

Manager Ashley Harlow said: “It is a good to support Julia’s House with this great tasting beer and now that the bridge is open again we are busy so hope to raise a lot.”

Wadworth head brewer Colin Oke is pleased with the result of his endeavours to create a refreshing drink.

He said: “We are very happy to support the Gazette and Herald with Stop Press for Julia’s House. The recipe has come out very well with a refreshing finish using Cascade, Syrian Goldings and Amarillo hops in the brew.”

Gazette editor Gary Lawrence visited the brewery last month to see the creation of the beer in process.

He said: “We are delighted that Wadworth has got behind our appeal in this way. It is fantastic that Stop Press will be on sale in pubs and give people the chance to enjoy a special ale and help our cause at the same time.

“Back in January we set ourselves a very ambitious target of raising £100,000 in 2016 but we are confident that with the help of our ever generous readers we will reach our goal.

“Work on creating a Julia’s House children’s hospice is about to begin and so this is the perfect time for us to be joining with Wadworth to launch the beer.”

A total of 5p per pint from every pint sold will go to the appeal. The pubs selling the brew are: the Kings Arms, All Cannings, Crown Inn, Devizes, Black Swan, Devizes, Moonrakers, Devizes, Black Horse, Devizes, Barge Inn, Seend and the Three Magpies, Seend Cleeve.

  • Julia's House is staging its hospice to hospice cycle ride on June 12, starting in Dorset and finish in Devizes.

Cyclists can choose from a 100km (62 miles) route or a longer stretch of 200km (124 miles) that includes a loop of the New Forest. There will be free transport back to the start line for riders and bikes should they want it and supporters who raise £200 or more will get the added bonus of a free Hospice to Hospice cycling jersey.
