A TOTAL of 40 teams will have £50,000 in their sights when they take part in a clay pigeon shoot on June 3.
The fundraising event organised by Bishops Cannings Cricket Club will mean a huge boost for our Julia's House appeal as half of all the profits will go to the cause.
Club chairman Ed Davies had hoped to raise a total of £40,000 but has now raised his expectations by £10,000. He said: "We have 40 teams signed up for this year, which is the most we have ever had.
"We have also been given some fantastic money-can't-buy items for our auction. Last year that alone raise £17,000 and I am confident we can top that."
In addition to the main auction people will also be able to buy lucky dip envelopes for £20 a time that might contain a price such as a free boiler service or round of golf or might be empty.
He said: "Lots of local businesses have given prizes for the envelopes so this year most of them will contain a decent prize."
The teams, each made up of five people, will take on a variety of shooting challenges at Wellington Barn near Calne. In addition to the serious shooting stands there will also be fun events including trying to hit plastic rabbits and axe throwing.
Other charities to benefit will be Devizes Opportunity Centre, Ataxia, which supports people with the neurological condition and Myasthenia Gravis research.
Mr Davies said: "We are keeping our fingers crossed for good weather but we have contingency plans if it is wet. Last year it was so hot that we we ran Morrisons dry of water.
"We have gazebos and a marquee that we can put up if we have to so it will go-ahead whatever happens. We just want to raise as much money as we can for Julia's House and the other charities. The support has been fantastic and a number of people have been very generous."
Mr Davies thanked the main sponsors who have made it possible for the event to raise so much money. These are: Nick Burns, Carter Jonas, Weber barbecues, Beechfield Reclamation, Fussell Wadman garage, Jewson, Devizes, Avon Trophies, Gaiger Brothers, Carter Pumps, Ramsbury Estates, Hilldrop Estate, Ramsbury, Walter Rose butchers, Wellington Barn, Cameron Naughton and Covered Occasions Marquees.
