PUB goers will be able to say cheers to our Julia's House appeal when a beer brewed especially for the cause by Wadworth in Devizes goes on sale throughout the county in coming weeks.
The brewery in Northgate Street is producing Stop Press to raise money for our 200 Appeal which aims to raise £100,000 to pay for carers to help families in Wiltshire looking after desperately sick children.
A total of 5p per pint from every pint sold will go to the appeal. Gazette editor Gary Lawrence visited the brewery to see the creation of the beer in process. He said: "We are delighted that Wadworth has got behind our appeal in this way. It is fantastic that Stop Press will be on sale in pubs and give people the chance to enjoy a special ale and help our cause at the same time.
"Back in January we set ourselves a very ambitious target of raising £100,000 in 2016 but we are confident that with the help of our ever generous readers we will reach our goal.
"Work on creating a Julia's House children's hospice is about to begin and so this is the perfect time for us to be joining with Wadworth to launch the beer."
It is expected the beer will go on sale in a couple of week's time.
Wadworth marketing manager Paul Sullivan said: "We are very pleased to be supporting Julia's House in this way."
Ged Montgomery from Julia's House was delighted the historic brewing firm, which first opened its doors in Devizes in 1875, has chosen to back the appeal.
Another Devizes business backing our cause is award winning butchers Walter Rose and Sons. Butcher Steve Cook has created a special Julia's House sausage and is donating 25 per cent of profits from every sale.
The steak and stout sausages available from his shop in Sidmouth Street cost £9.50 a kilo. He said: "I think Julia's House does a tremendous job supporting children and their families so I am delighted to be able to help."
The Devizes friends of Julia's House are also hosting a ball at Dauntsey's School on September 3 to raise money for the 200 Appeal. Tickets £50 per head, and if people book a table of ten by July 1 they will get two bottles of free wine on their table.
Contact Liz Froud on 01980 677105 for tickets.
All of the money raised by the Gazette appeal will pay for carers for Wiltshire families. A number of carers are already working with families in the county but they are looking forward to the new Devizes hospice opening.
Carer Emily Glen said: "It is so exciting to know a hospice for Wiltshire isn't far away now."
