Marshfield CC celebrated their entry into the Wiltshire Youth League with a well-deserved away win against a strong Malmesbury side, finishing on 166 for 2 and winning by 47 runs.
Marshfield batted first, with opener Tim Rouse hitting 15 fours and 2 sixes to make an impressive 99 before being bowled just before he could make the magic 100.
He was aided at the crease by Patrick Grieshaber, who made 38 runs in a combined partnership with Rouse of 123.
Malmesbury fought back hard, with contributions from Tom Whitehead (35) and James Gaunt (40 not out), but tidy bowling from Marshfield and good teamwork in the field, particularly in the last 10 overs, limited the damage.
With Charlie Pope providing a safe pair of hands behind the stumps, Malmesbury wickets fell to Kyle George (2-10), Jeremy Bond (2-28) and Patrick Grieshaber (3-4), and the home side finished on 119-7.
