Celebrated wildlife artist Joanna May has donated one of her pictures depicting a hare near the Broad Town White Horse to a charity auction to be held in Devizes tomorrow.
Ms May, who has just opened a gallery in High Street, Devizes, said the mounted print is worth about £350 and hopes it will raise around this for the charity Bag4Sport Foundation.
She will be one of the guests at a sportsman’s dinner at The Bear Hotel tomorrow evening which will have snooker legend Dennis Taylor as its guest speaker. The auction will be held during the evening organised by the charity to help grass root sport.
Ms May, who is known for her pictures of hairs in the Wiltshire countryside, said: “I think Bag4Sport Foundation does a wonderful job and I wanted to do my bit to help.
"In the picture of The Broad Town White the hare is looking towards us from a field of hey with the White Horse above on the hill on the left and the constellation of Taurus in the sky representing the Bull and the cattle that graze on the farmland around which is mainly used for beef farming.
"Wiltshire is loved for being the area of the White Horse and also for the hare being synonymous with it.”
