Crowds gathered in Market Place last night for the annual Confetti Battle.
Young and old enjoyed the event, which dates from 1955, and is thought to be the only one of its kind in the country.
When the main cannons fired, there was a rush to buy confetti and hundreds of bags were sold.
After the mayhem there was a fireworks display and Jennings fairground was there throughout the evening.
The tradition of throwing confetti at carnivals is not a new thing.
It started at Devizes Carnival in 1913, its second year, but the confetti and rose petals were thrown by the crowd at people in the procession, rather than at each other.
