Miracle baby Emily Chase must be the youngest child ever to take part in a Devizes baby show, for in physical terms she was only days old when the judging took place.
Emily was born six weeks premature after her mum Becky Turner had a traumatic pregnancy.
Miss Turner, 22, of Wessex Close, Devizes said: “Emily is six weeks old but she is still like a newborn baby. The doctors told me it would take her a while to catch up with other babies.
“She is a real miracle baby as I had four miscarriages before I became pregnant with her, all around 11 weeks. I was very scared I would lose her too so I had a scan very early in pregnancy.”
She was then told that she was experiencing an ectopic pregnancy, where the fertilised egg implants itself outside of the womb, and would need an emergency operation.
She said: “They operated but found out that it was not ectopic after all. I was very worried the operation could have affected the baby and I was very nervous all through the rest of the pregnancy.”
Miss Turner continued to be monitored closely because of her history and after her waters broke six weeks before her due date, the baby was induced.
Emily was born weighing 4lbs 9ozs but is now a healthy 7lbs 4ozs. She was kept in the special care baby unit at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon for several weeks.
Miss Turner said: “She is a real little fighter and I wanted to take her to the baby show as a sort of celebration.”
Emily was by far the smallest and youngest baby taking part in the Mayor’s Baby Show in the Corn Exchange, Devizes last week. She finished in third place in the 0-6 months category and Miss Turner was proud for her to wear her medal.
Miss Turner’s partner Mitchum Chase turned up to the competition just in time for the final judging.
