Mr McSweeney’s response to my letter on fracking (No benefit to footprint) highlights the point I sought to make, that we need expert guidance on this subject.
At no point did I say I supported fracking: I merely recited the generally-held view that there would be considerable benefit accruing to this country if this technology was used widely as it is in the USA. I recognised the issues of safety which are a major concern to many.
Mr McSweeney’s views are rather at odds with the majority view and he purports to speak with authority on the subject, but I have spoken a very well qualified expert who holds a very different view.
That is precisely why we need to hear both sides of the argument, Finally, I am accused of disapproving of those who wish to protest: not so! My objection was the claim the Wiltshire is against fracking. Protest by all means, but do not seek to include me and many more like me who have no wish to condemn this technology without first hearing the pros and cons.
