On the subject of the latest damage to our local heritage; the ornamental gates at the canal end of Quakers Walk.
I sincerely hope that this was the result of accidental damage and that the perpetrator has owned up and offered to pay for the repair. This damage is especially disappointing as the gates were only restored to their former glory earlier this year.
Although I use Quakers Walk on a regular basis this damage has made me aware that I do not know much about these gates or Quakers Walk itself.
Perhaps the Gazette & Herald could run a series of articles about our local heritage so that those who have not lived here all their lives could be more informed about the treasures around them?
