A pall of smokes hangs over Froxfield tonight as firefighters tackle a major blaze at the up-market Oka furniture warehouse in the village.
Mindy Milne, organiser of the village fete on September 6, described the smoke as being thick, thick, thick. "It looks like a fog hanging over Froxfield," she said. "The smell is appalling"
Mrs Milne was driving towards her village home when she came across the traffic delays caused by the closure of the A4 while upwards of six fire crews tackle the blaze, which was reported at 6.52pm.
Traffic is being diverted from Froxfield via Ramsbury.
On scene at the moment are fire crews from Devizes, Pewsey, Marlborough, Hungerford, Ramsbury and Royal Wootton Bassett, .bolstered by a water tender from Swindon and an aerial appliance.
The closure of the A4 means trade is quieter tonight at the village pub and restaurant, The Pelican. However, this is being made up by families whose village homes have lost power because of the blaze and are seeking their evening meal there.
