Girls at independent girls’ school St Mary’s Calne are celebrating following some excellent GCSE results, with 88% of all entries graded A*-B.

The results included 21% of the girls achieving A*s and A grades across all of their subjects.

There were some outstanding results in specific subjects including 92% A*-As in RS (a compulsory subject for all pupils) and over 80% A*-As in art, geography, history and music.

In history, geography, art and RS several girls were awarded full marks across all of their papers, a truly remarkable achievement.

Some of the top performing girls came to St Mary’s on a Foundation Scholarship – offered to gifted and talented pupils from the state sector.

Elsbeth Giles from Devizes, achieved a full sweep of ten A*s and Lauren Dickson from Malmesbury, was awarded four A*s, 6 As and a B.

Lauren achieved full marks across her history papers in every unit.

Other local girls who performed exceptionally well include Isobel Smith from Tytherton Lucas, with a full sweep of 11 A*s, including full marks in geography, history and the RS short course.

Juliet Baker from Farleigh Wick, Bath, was awarded ten A*s and 2 As, including full marks in all history papers; Helena Boase from Calne received ten A*s and 1 B (including full marks across Art & Design and an almost perfect score in RS).

Luana Sharp from Bath was awarded eight A*s and three As.

Other scholars who performed extremely well included Charlotte Paterson (awarded the 11+ Academic Scholarship) with 11 A*s and 1 A, Hope Pleydell-Bouverie (awarded the 11+ Academic Exhibition) with six A*s and five As and Music Scholar Albany Bartlett with three A*s and eight As.

Georgia Murdoch, Francesca Pullan and Taya Sellers who were awarded all A*-A grades.

Girls taking GCSEs early received outstanding results, with all 21 girls achieving 100% A* grades in French, Italian, maths, Russian and Spanish.

Headmistress, Dr Felicia Kirk, said: "Congratulations to all the girls on their GCSE results; I am really proud of them all. They have worked extremely hard and their commitment has been rewarded.

"The teachers here at St Mary’s Calne are dedicated to ensuring that the girls do their very best, and I am very grateful to all the staff who support the girls and enable them to achieve their full potential.

"We wish the girls all the very best as they embark on their A-level studies.”
