Pewsey Vale farmer Richard Oram has applied for planning permission to convert a barn into a home.
Mr Oram, of Manor Farm, Allington, wants to convert the barn for his son, who works at the farm, to live in.
Mr Oram’s agent, Richard Cosker of RCC Town Planning Consultancy, said the barn is too small to meet modern mechanised farming requirements and plays no meaningful role at the farm.
The dairy and arable farm gained permission for a large dairy unit last year, which is under construction.
Mr Cosker said a report showed the costs of converting the timber framed barn to alternative uses such as employment and tourism were not viable and that residential use is the only viable option.
