Thousands took at step back in time when they attended Lacock at War.
The weekend event, organised by The West Wilts Area of the Military Vehicle Trust, saw military vehicles and re-enators come to the village as part of the festivities.
Highlights of the show, now in its third year, included a performance by singer Madeline Brown and a burlesque workshop overseen by Dulcie Demure.
Lacock at War aimed to commemorate servicemen’s endeavours and celebrate the Great British wartime spirit.
Sylvia Wardle, the West Wilts Area’s treasurer, said: “Lacock at War went very well again this year. I was really pleased with the amount of people we had come through the gate, we estimate there must have been around 5,000 people come over the two days, which is just great.
“We have only been going for three years and we still felt an element of surprise to discover just how popular we were.
"It was absolutely fantastic to see so many families having picnics and enjoying the attractions.”
Mrs Wardle said that she felt the event’s popularity might have had something to do with the public’s desire to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.
She said: “Obviously the vast majority of people from that time are no longer with us but there are people still old enough to remember the aftermath of that conflict and want to pay their respects. Of course, we also know how supportive Wiltshire has been to armed forces members past and present.
“We were delighted to welcome two Wiltshire Dunkirk veterans which was lovely and they seemed to enjoy themselves.”
Organisers of Lacock at War thanked the National Trust and Lacock Parish Council for supporting the event.
