Chippenham is a great town for everyday shopping and I speak as someone who has lived here for nearly 35 years.
What I am also aware of is the tension between supporting the local shops and getting one’s shopping home.
If car parking is involved, there is the cost and time pressure; if on foot, there is a limit to what can be carried.
For many years, I have had a shopping trolley – my current one is bright red.
With no success, I have tried to encourage the town council to sponsor colourful shopping trollies, available to all at perhaps £10.
I know just how much I can carry home in mine and feel such a gesture would show a real sense of commitment to our local economy and traders on the part of our councillors.
I would be interested in other readers’ responses to this idea.
