I was staggered to read the contents of the letter from a Wiltshire and Chippenham town councillor Nina Phillips (Gazette, August 7), regarding the proposed formidable warehousing development, which would be outside of the ‘natural’ boundary – that is what the western bypass is, to ease traffic around Chippenham, not to encourage more development.
No wonder people in Cepen Park North and Allington village are angry at the casual attitude to Chippenham’s so-called future ‘development.
There is, apparently not one note of concern from the planning office about how the people at Cepen Park North feel, when they read such words as, “favourably disposed” towards planning approval, before there is even a planning application to discuss.
Just what is going on? Have they not heard about localism?
Do these planning people imagine for one moment that no one will be angry. Would they be angry, if such a thing were to be proposed on their doorstep?
Because this is what democracy is all about; asking the people for their approval, or not.
This is what localism is about. This is what the government promised: localism.
Let the people decide about development.
