Once again Chippenham has the chance of new employment in the shape of The Range distribution centre and – guess what? – out come all the protesters.
The area is desperate for new investment and as I see it the main protest is about the level of noise and increased lorries using the site.
The site they have chosen is a fair way from Cepen Park, a bank of soil and landscaping is already in place, and when the road is turned into a dual carriageway it will be even further from the houses.
How many times do we have to turn down these opportunities of employment for the people of Chippenham?
We had Asda and Dyson wanting to provide work but, no, we lost out to Melksham and Malmesbury.
The argument that it will be operating 24-hours-a-day is ridiculous. Of course it needs to as their shops are open seven days a week and need supplies.
Let’s hope that our council sees sense and welcomes The Range to town and that the promised 800 staff are recruited locally.
I for one would love to see more out-of-town shopping in the shape of Lidl and Aldi both of which are operating in nearby Melksham along with Asda and they all seem to be doing well.
Wake up Chippenham, we have a great town, but let’s make it better.
John Snell, Farleigh Close, Chippenham.
