Prepare for showtime – comedian Michael McIntyre is moving to Compton Bassett.

He has bought a property in the village which multi-millionaire singer Robbie Williams also calls home.

Mr McIntyre, who made £21 million in ticket sales from his Showtime tour last year, lives in Hampstead, London, with his wife Kitty and two sons Lucas and Oscar.

But he now plans to move to Wiltshire, having bought a £2.5m house, close to where Robbie Williams snapped up his house for £8.5 million in 2009.

An electrician, working at Mr McIntyre’s new home on Monday, said: “He’s been in a couple of weeks. He’s a lovely man, very amicable, although I only met him briefly.

“He’s called us in to make sure everything is fine before he moves in. It looks as though Compton Bassett is becoming the place to be for celebrities and I can see why because it’s a lovely place.”

Mr McIntyre is best known for his Comedy Roadshow on BBC One. A former Britain’s Got Talent judge, he performed in Leeds on Tuesday and is due to appear at the O2 in London this Saturday for the Channel 4 Comedy Gala.

The Rev Philip Bromiley, whose diocese includes St Swithin’s Church in Compton Bassett, welcomed Mr McIntyre to the village.

He said: “I think Compton Bassett is a picture postcard village and there’s a lovely community.

“It’s difficult for a lot of these big names because they find it hard to be part of the community. I would be glad to see Michael McIntyre in church at some point.

“It’s near the M4 corridor and it’s reasonably secluded. These people do value their privacy above all else.

“There’s already a Michael McIntyre who lives in Lower Compton, so there’s a running joke that we now have two Michael McIntyres.”
