The future looks bright, thanks to the rising stars of WBLets, a youth section that brims with talent.

Last week’s production of Calamity Jane, a Western musical based on the Doris Day film, was a resounding triumph for a cast with members aged six to 16.

Beth Fisher, 13, starred brilliantly in the title role. Her confident performance captured every nuance of Calamity Jane’s transformation from gun-toting gal to the romantic, feminine young lady who blossomed as the bride of Wild Bill Hickock (played by Andrew Johnson).

Georgie Smith, also 13, was excellent as Katie Brown, a theatrical dresser brought to Deadwood by Calamity, who genuinely believed her to be the famous singer/dancer Adelaide Adams (Chloe Moore). Assured performances by Tom Fisher as Francis Fryer, Tyler Ferring as Danny Gilmartin, Ben Reilly as Rattlesnake, Jacob Vincent as Pete and Ross Bathurst as the Colonel, must pave a path to further successful roles.

Attractive sets, splendid costumes, crisp diction and a cavalcade of well-loved numbers set the seal on a memorable show.
