Devizes Festival is now well under way but there is plenty more to come in the next week and a half.

A local band will be crowned as the best in the area following the final of Battle of the Bands, taking place at the Corn Exchange on Friday night.

But if something a little more gentle is to your taste, then Maire ni Chathasaigh and Chris Newman will be offering Irish folk music at the town hall on the same evening.

There will be tea and sympathy at the town hall on Saturday at 3pm as poet-turned-thriller-writer Sophie Hannah entertains. The price of a delicious cream tea is included in the ticket price.

Mikron Theatre Company tells some Tales of the Thames at the Wharf Theatre on Saturday evening while Music for Awhile presents the music of foreign composers who made their home in London at St Mary’s Church on Sunday evening.

There are treats in store for younger theatregoers on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings when the Lyngo Theatre Company presents Watch the Birdy at the Wharf Theatre.

Medicine and morality are the subjects under discussion at Cafe Scientifique at Isola Bella restaurant in Long Street next Wednesday when debate and good Italian food and drink look to be a recipe for success.

Full details of festival events are in the free brochure available at venues all over the area. Tickets are on sale at Devizes Books in Sidmouth Street.
