Marlborough was treated to a touch of the movies at the weekend with the appearance of Mr J - a self-confessed movie geek whose world is full of comics and movie paraphernalia.
“But actually, I’m just a total geek!” said artist in residence MrJ - a self taught artist.
“I am really into Marvel, DC Comics and pop culture and am a total child of the 80s.”
He was in town to help publicise the opening of a new gallery on the High Street.
Nova opened its doors a few weeks ago, making it the second high end contemporary art shop to appear in the town in the past couple of years.
The gallery opened in Royal Leamington Spa at the tail-end of 2019 and has since added a gallery in Marlow to its roster. Marlborough will be its third outlet.
The High Street property was last occupied by fashion retailer Jaeger.
The gallery brought in punters of all age groups, with some youngsters getting into the spirit of the day by coming dressed up as their favourite super hero.
“We have had a couple of Captain Americas through the door!” said gallery art consultant Victoria Convey.
“We have had a few local artists come in too and we are looking forward to looking at their work. We also hope to sponsor the Marlborough Open Studios next year.”
Eleven year old Angus Eadie was visiting Marlborough from Newbury with his mum. “I really like it as it is futuristic,” he said. “It is the sort of stuff I might have on my bedroom wall. I have a Banksy on my wall - not a real one though!”
