On Saturday [March 12] from 10am until 1pm, the Devizes Town Band will be playing in the Market Place, collecting money for the Ukraine and playing the Ukrainian national anthem.
All the money collected will be paid directly to the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. The Government will match donations pound for pound.
The money will go towards providing food, water, shelter and healthcare.
A town band spokesman said: “As we all know, the situation in which the people of Ukraine find themselves is appalling. Families are fleeing the conflict and have left their homes with only the items they were able to carry. We hope the people of Devizes will once again dig deep and spare a thought for the plight of our fellow Europeans.”
“At band practice this week we learned the Ukrainian national anthem and we will start each set with that. The music will be jolly mix of light entertainment including titles like Over the Rainbow and My Heart Will Go On together with music from stage and screen.”
