CHIPPENHAM Town boss Mark Collier says their Wiltshire Senior Cup win was a fitting way to end a successful season.
Collier was able to guide his team to safety in their first season of National League South football, with them claiming 13th in the league table.
The Bluebirds also played out a comfortable 3-0 win over Highworth Town at the Energy Check County Ground, as Will Richards, James Guthrie and Alex Ferguson all notched.
The Chippenham boss, who extended his stay at Hardenhuish Park until 2020 by signing a new two-year deal in April, says he is pleased to finish on a high.
“I said to the players to finish 13th and win a bit of silverware when we have juggled the team around all year, is a nice way to end the season,” he said.
“We have had a good season, not a fantastic season but a good one. The game itself, I always say its difficult to play a team who sit behind the ball and play one up front.
“We knew how hard it was going to be, so we just had to be patient and we thought once we got the first goal, we could go out and get some more, which is how it turned out.
“We could have scored more and I think Jared Thompson has made one save from the entire game, other than that they weren’t too much of a threat.
“At the end of the day it is a cup final, we wanted to win the game whether that is 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0, I would have taken any win, but we were comprehensive winners and we should be.”
The three goals came from all areas of the pitch, something which Collier was pleased to see as he had highlighted movement as an important factor.
“I said to the players getting the movement right is something we need to do, we needed to be flexible in our approach play,” he added.
“Sometimes we needed to play forward quicker than we did but it is job done, it was a comprehensive victory.
“When you come to the County Ground all the players want to try and score. It was typical for Will to get a set-piece and nice to see Ferguson and Guthrie score too.”
