CHIPPENHAM Town have signed Swindon Town's Matt Jones on loan it was confirmed this afternoon.

Mark Collier snapped up the left-sided player, who is a first-year pro at the County Ground and the son of Collier's assistant Tom Jones, initially for a month in time for him to appear in tonight's Southern League Premier Division clash against Weymouth.

Collier told the Gazette & Herald: "We're obviously short on numbers at the moment with injuries and suspensions so it's good to get him in and he can be involved tonight.''

Meanwhile, Collier has shed more light on the fitness of striker Alan Griffin, who has been out with a knee injury.

The playing future of Griffin has been debated in some quarters, with Collier revealing he was awaiting another appointment to determine the extent of the problem.

"Alan's waiting to see a specialist for a second appointment so until we have the outcome of that, we won't know a lot more,'' said Collier.

"The likelihood is that he will go for a bit of keyhole surgery and we'll wait and see what happens.''
