The allotments at Quakers Walk in Devizes has a new arrival - a TARDIS.
The replica of Doctor Who's time travelling machine was snapped up by Devizes couple Philippa Morgan and Dec McSweeney when it was auctioned off by local company Wiltshire Fencing & Landscaping (formerly Elm Tree Fencing & Landscaping) to raise money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance Appeal.
Mr McSweeney and Mrs Morgan, of Victoria Road, had been wanting a shed for their allotment at Quakers Walk and when they read in the Gazette & Herald about the TARDIS being auctioned off they thought it would be ideal.
The couple were the second highest bidders for the TARDIS with £202. The highest bidder, who proposed buying it for £250, pulled out.
Mrs Morgan, a project manager at Wiltshire County Council, said: “We needed a shed for our allotment and we thought the TARDIS would be something a bit different. We were thrilled to bits to get it.
“It’s become a talking point, people ask us how the TARDIS is and it’s fun for children to see it. Everybody who’s seen it thinks it’s fun. We have been asked to have a TARDIS warming party and we will do so when the weather gets a bit better.”
The couple moved to Devizes just over a year ago and got their allotment in November. They are members of the Quakers Walk Protection Group.
Mr McSweeney, a computer programmer, and Mrs Morgan are Doctor Who fans and have a DVD featuring David Tenant.
Asked if the TARDIS is bigger inside than it seems from the outside Mrs Morgan replied: “Definitely.”
The ten foot tall Tardis is made of plywood and was made for a Doctor Who themed float at Devizes and Pewsey carnivals last year.
