Air cadets have been left without vital funds after burglars broke into their hut at RAF Rudloe Manor and stole £400.
The hut, which is used by 27 air cadets aged between 13 and 18 twice a week for training and activities, was targeted by thieves who got in by prising open a window.
Commanding officer Tim Sheehan said: “The burglars stole a float of money that is used to purchase items we need to buy like stationery and refreshments.
“The float was made up of money we have raised through fundraising ourselves and subscription money that members pay.
“We depend on the money to put into a main fund that helps pay for our upkeep and basic costs.”
Wiltshire Police are working with Ministry of Defence police to investigate the crime and are appealing for witnesses to the raid, which happened between June 22 and 29.
They say there is a strong possibility someone in the Rudloe area will have knowledge of the thieves.
Sector head for Corsham, Inspector Kate Pain, said: “While this offence may not appear to be the most serious, this will cause a great deal of distress to the local cadet force.
“The stolen money was to be used over the school holiday period, to keep the cadets actively participating in their group events, and it a great pity that someone, probably from the local area, has ruined these activities.”
An MoD spokesperson said: “The building concerned is MoD property; however its primary use is as a community facility utilised by the Air Training Corps Cadets for the benefit of teenagers from the surrounding area.
“The ATC gives the teenagers an insight into the services and allows them to take part in activities they would not normally have access to. The money stolen would have helped fund those activities.
“This crime affects the whole community, therefore we are very keen for members of the public with information regarding this offence to come forward and contact the Ministry of Defence Police on (01225) 815983.”
