TOURISM bosses in Devizes are celebrating after a Tripadvisor poll put three of the town's attractions in the top ten of must see places in Wiltshire.
The Wadworth Visitor Centre came in at number three, Wiltshire Museum at number six and the Caen Hill flight of locks at number nine in the list that was published to coincide with English Tourism Week.
Museum director David Dawson hopes the good publicity will help to boost the number of people visiting the museum in Long Street over the Easter holiday and generally promote tourism to the town.
He said: "We are very pleased to be listed in the top ten attractions. We have also just received our Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence for 2017."
Among the recent five star ratings left on Tripadvisor about the museum was one that said: "Like a Tardis, small on the outside but big inside
"This was our first time going to this museum and hope to come again if in area. The receptionist was kind, jolly and helpful. There are lots of rooms full of exhibits from various ages such as the Romans or Iron age."
Chris Welham chief executive of Wadworth was delighted that the brewery tour and visitor centre had also met with approval. He said: "Our staff have worked very hard to promote this. We have made a number of changes to improve the visitor experience on the brewery tour."
Those who posted on Tripadvisor agreed with one person saying: "A 'must do' tour in Devizes Knowledgeable guides and so much to see. Original brewery, modern brewery, microbrewery and signwriting shop."
Another wrote: "Informative and interesting Brewery Visit. This is one of the few family breweries that exist. The guided tour is very informative."
Caen Hill flight of locks, which is managed by the Canal and River Trust, was described as the first wonder of the world by one delighted visitor.
They wrote: "This is my first wonder of the world. It is a most wonderful sight - swans nesting, walking with their cygnets, saw my first kingfisher and a cafe at top. Helpful volunteers to help you get up the flight of locks. Love it."
Another wrote: "Great engineering and views. Start at the top and walk down great views that way. I would have like to see it in action."
