SCOUTS, Cubs and residents in Marlborough have been busy getting their hands dirty as part of a community project planting trees.
They have been in Elcot Lane playing field armed with wellies and spades planting trees and shrubs, thanks to a grant by Marlborough Town Council and the Marlborough Area Board. The total project cost £1,500.
The trees and shrubs were planted to improve the appearance and natural diversity of the area along the allotment fence line and around the pavilion building. The Elcot Lane playing field is a well-used recreational area for residents, sports organisations within the town and the wider town community.
Marlborough Scouts and Cubs were also helping out as part of their community and forestry badge and the youngsters worked diligently guided by their leaders.
Peter Povey, chairman of the North East Scout Council, said: “The Scouts and Cubs did a fantastic job along with their leaders, working as very enthusiastic team, also getting the planting done in record time.
“Richard Beale Marlborough town estate manager was in charge of the operation and gave a talk on the planting process, and the way the trees would be looked after for generations to come.
“The Scouts and Cubs worked alongside the council ground staff, we also had parents support, along with members of the Elcot Lane Playing Field Group Roger Harris, Sue Harris and Steve Rudd.”
