A CAR was completely destroyed in a fire on The Parade in Marlborough this morning.
Wiltshire Fire and Rescue were called at 7.29am and one crew from Marlborough attended to extinguish the blaze, remaining on scene until just before 9am.
No one was injured and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue have said they are not treating it as suspicious.
Sue Owen, 60, who witnessed the fire initially, thought there had been an explosion.
Mrs Owen, of Barn Street, said: “I was having a cup of tea at home when I heard what sounded like an explosion.
“I heard a loud bang so I went to look out the window where a car was smoking and I saw the man driving jump out of his car.
“I shouted down to my husband Les to call the fire brigade but it had already been rung in.
“As I watched there were several more bangs as tyres exploded before the fire crew turned up.”
St Peter’s School, which is also on The Parade, was not affected as the fire was out by the time children were heading to school.
