The A342 at Rowde has now been reopened after yesterday's dramatic barn fire but tonnes of hay and straw are continuing to smoulder.
Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service now has just one pump at West End Farm after a crew kept watch overnight.
The road between Chippenham and Devizes was closed yesterday after the fire service was called at 11am.
It was reopened at about 7am this morning although road closed signs remained in place for some time after that.
Trowbridge watch manager Neil Hiscock, who was one of the first firefighters on the scene yesterday, was back with his crew at 5am this morning.
He said: "There were two crews here overnight but then we reduced to one and I decided to re-open the road at 7am.
"We are here now in a defensive position keeping a watching brief."
Yesterday there were fears that a diesel tank and a giant slurry holder close to the centre of the blaze could have been damaged but crews managed to stop the fire reaching the vessels.
