Four new dementia experts will be on hand to support those with the condition across Wiltshire from May 1.
The service from charity Alzheimer’s Support will see advisors split their time between doctors surgeries in Market Lavington, Marlborough, Upavon, Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon, Warminster and Westbury.
They will also be making home visits and be available to be phoned to provide advice.
Anna Littlechild, chief executive officer of the Wiltshire chairty Alzheimer’s Support, said: “We are so pleased to be able to employ these advisers and grateful to the GPs who have agreed to host them.
“In the past, some people were left feeling that there wasn’t much that could be done for them after being told they had dementia, but there is support out there and the advisers will help people to access it.”
As well as providing assistance the advisors will also be recommending organisations who might be able to provide additional support regarding health care and financial advice.
Mrs Littlechild said: “People can feel very alone when they or a loved one has a diagnosis of dementia, so having a contact who understands what they may be going through will be a great help.”
The dementia advisers are being funded by the new NHS clinical commissioning group and Wiltshire Council. Alzheimer's Support, founded in 1990 which also has its headquarters in Trowbridge and an office and day care support centre in Devizes, provides care to around 150 people at any one time.
