A cool performance is promised in Corsham this December as a display of Norwegian ice music comes to town.
Norwegian composer and musician Terje Isungset performs each show using instruments crafted from glacial ice to produce a haunting, ethereal sound. He will be coming to Wiltshire as part of his upcoming UK tour, and will appear at Corsham’s Hartham Park on December 1.
All of Terje’s instruments are hand-carved and stored in deep freeze between shows, when he wears thick gloves to play. He will be accompanied by Norwegian singer Maria Skranes, with whom he recently performed a sell-out run in London.
The concert will take place in the Georgian mansion’s Stické court, one of only two such surviving courts in the country.
Stické was an early form of 19th century indoor tennis, popular with the British military establishment.
The concert is being funded by the Pound Arts Centre. programme manager Michael Cainan said: “We are very excited to have Terje coming to perform for us.
“He makes his instruments entirely out of ice he takes from Norwegian lakes, and he has chipped away at them and has created these unique ice instruments.”
Tickets for the show are available on (01249) 701628 or from the Pound box office online.
